Diamond Standards

A diamond’s shape describes its outline. Its cut determines how precisely its facets have been proportioned, aligned and finished.

When a diamond is cut well, light moves through the stone and returns to the eye as brightness, fire and movement. When its proportions are compromised, light can escape through the sides or base, leaving even a high-color, high-clarity diamond looking muted.

Polish refers to the quality of the diamond’s finished surfaces. Symmetry considers the precision and alignment of its facets. Together, these qualities influence how evenly and effectively the diamond interacts with light.

Unless otherwise indicated, GRWN diamonds meet a 3X standard, reflecting excellence in cut, polish and symmetry.

Carat describes weight. Cut creates brilliance.

Diamond color is evaluated by the presence or absence of visible hue. On the internationally recognized D-to-Z scale, grades closer to D have less visible color.

Unless otherwise indicated, GRWN diamonds are F color or better. This places them within the colorless range and preserves a clear, neutral appearance across white, yellow and rose precious metals.

Color can become more noticeable in larger diamonds and shapes with broad, open facets. Selecting F color or better helps maintain the bright, luminous quality central to GRWN’s diamond designs.

Fancy-color diamonds sit outside this standard and are selected individually for the strength, balance and character of their color.

Clarity describes the internal and surface characteristics of a diamond. These characteristics are evaluated according to their size, nature, number, position and visibility.

Unless otherwise indicated, GRWN diamonds are VS clarity or better. At this level, clarity characteristics are minor and generally require magnification and a trained eye to identify.

The grade is only one part of the evaluation. Each diamond is also considered for how it appears face-up, helping ensure that its characteristics do not distract from its transparency, brilliance or overall appearance.

Clarity receives particular attention in larger diamonds and step-cut shapes, whose broad, open facets can make internal characteristics more apparent.

The diamond should appear clean, luminous and visually resolved.

All GRWN diamonds greater than 2.0 carats are accompanied by documentation from GIA or GCAL unless otherwise indicated.

This independent documentation provides a third-party assessment of the individual diamond and may include its carat weight, measurements, color, clarity, finish and identifying information.

The format and terminology may vary depending on the laboratory and when the diamond was evaluated. GIA and GCAL use their own systems and documentation formats, but both provide an assessment independent of GRWN.

When documentation accompanies a diamond, the issuing laboratory and relevant report information appear within the product details.

GRWN diamonds are certified under the SCS-007 Sustainability Rated Diamond Standard by SCS Global Services.
